London Colney, a Civil Parish and Village in the English County of Hertfordshire
London Colney is a civil parish and village in the St Albans district of the English County of Hertfordshire located near St Albans and to the north of London. The village is considered a St Alban’s dormitory or satellite village where some residents travel to St Alban’s to shop or work.
Telfords Bridge, a multi-arched brick bridge spans the River Colne as it navigates along the village High Street. The original crossing is still visible on the Western side of the bridge where the Green Dragon and Bull pubs conveniently sit facing each other on opposite sides of the Ford. Flooded gravel pits close by form a safe place for wild birds. The village features two coal tax posts, marker posts erected in the 1860s to mark the places where taxes on coal were due.
