Billericay, a Civil Parish and Town in the Borough of Basildon in the English County of Essex
The Essex town of Billericay is also a civil parish in the Borough of Basildon. It is a commuter town located within the London Basin and is 28 miles east of Central London.
It is believed that the reason why there are many inns in the town is that during the 13th and 14th Centuries the town had to accommodate some pilgrims to the Canterbury who travelled via this town. They may have had the need to stay the night before crossing the River Thames at Tilbury. The town’s most exceptional historical experience was in 1381 at the Battle of Billericay during the Peasant’s Revolt.

The top crowd drawer in this town is the Hanningfield Reservoir, a Site of special Scientific Interest that has been developed as a nature reserve. Visitors can go hiking in the footpaths in the woodlands around the water and admire the wildlife and birdlife in the area. They can also go fly fishing either from the banks or from a boat as long as they procure a fishing permit. Another “must visit” is the Barleylands Farm Park and Craft Village where the Imperial Bird of Prey Academy is one of the attraction. Not to be missed also is the Cater Museum and the Billericay Fireworks held in Lake Meadows. It is the largest fireworks display in Essex.
