Haddenham, a Civil Parish and Village in the Aylesbury Vale District of the English County of Buckinghamshire
Haddenham is both a civil parish and a village in the district of Aylesbury Vale of Buckinghamshire, England. Its nearest neighbours are Aylesbury on the south-west and Thame of Oxfordshire in the northeast. The name of the village came from an Old English word Hǣdanhām which could mean "Hǣda's Homestead" or maybe Hǣdingahām, “”the home of the Hadding tribe.” There is a significant possibility that the first community in the area is of the Hadding tribe which came from Haddenham in the County of Cambridgeshire.
The town is one of the only three English witchet or wychet villages. A wychet village is one where the walls of the houses and buildings are made of white clay and straw and the roof thatched or tiled with red bricks.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Haddenham
In the past, the village claimed more pubs than it does today. The Eight Bells and The Anchor at Church End have been converted into private homes. The Waggon and Horses along High Street were turned into a Chinese restaurant; The Peking Rendezvous also closed in 2013. Then there was the Red Lion in Church End which also closed in 2013. A plan to demolish the Red Lion and replace it with residential flats was declined. As of this writing, this village has a total of seven restaurants and two coffee/tea houses while there are no hotels or B&Bs in this town.
Things to See and Do in Haddenham
There is an industrial estate in this village, and it is located close to the small grass-strip airfield. The Haddenham Museum is also a place to visit while in this town. It has a collection of artefacts and historical information about the village. While in the area, a visit to the Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital Visitor’s Centre would interest both children and adults.
