Amersham, a Civil Parish and Market Town Within the Chiltern District in the English County of Buckinghamshire
Amersham is a market town and civil parish in the Buckinghamshire County in England. It is in the Chiltern Hills within the Chiltern district 27 miles north-west of London. It is also 13 miles away from High Wycombe and 15 miles away from Aylesbury. The town also forms part of the London commuter belt, called the London metropolitan area.
This market town is divided into two distinct areas, Old Amersham and Amersham-on-the-hill. The first one is located at the foot of the hill in the valley of the River Misbourne and is described as a “charming Old Town.” It encompasses the 13th Century St Mary’s parish church and some coaching inns and pub. Then the other district which used to be called The Common is a relatively modern settlement which developed rapidly because of the advent of the Metropolitan Railway line in the 1890s. It is now referred to as the “New Town”.
