Wendover, a Market Town at the Foot of the Chiltern Hills in the English county of Buckinghamshire
Wendover is a market town nestling at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in the English county of Buckinghamshire. The rural town is mainly cultivable land with some hamlets that huddle in the thick of the lush forest of the surrounding hills. This town is also a civil parish within the district of Aylesbury Vale. Since 1464, it has had a royal charter for a weekly market, so that it is a town rather than a village. However, many of the current local dwellers prefer to call it a village.

There are several pubs in Wendover, some of which are considered quite popular. The Red Lion, The White Swan, The George & Dragon, The Pack Horse, and the King and Queen. The Marquis of Granby has been renamed in 2010 to the Village Gate, and again renamed to The Shoulder of Mutton. Dolly Saville, considered “Britain’s oldest barmaid” or even the “world’s oldest barmaid, who died after celebrating her 100 years birthday, served as a barmaid for 76 years at the Red Lion. The Red Lion is also a hotel, the only hotel in in town, although there is a B&B near the town, the Mayerton Cottages.
