Buckhurst Hill, a Suburban Town in the District of Epping Forest of Essex, England
A suburban town in the Epping Forest District of the English County of Essex, Buckhurst Hill is also considered part of the Greater London Area and the metropolitan area of London since it is contiguous to the northern border of Greater London. The town grew as a result of the advent of the railway in 1856. It used to be serviced by the Eastern Counties Railway. At present, however, the town is on the Central Line of the London Underground.
This suburban town lies at the western boundary of Essex near the border of the London Borough of Redbridge and 10.7 miles northeast of Charing Cross. Sections of Epping Forest are within the town, integrated with residential districts.
Buckhurst Hill was first mentioned as “La Bocherste” in 1135. The name developed into Bucket Hill, which means a hill covered with beech trees, in later years.
