Stanford Le Hope, a Town and Parish of the Church of England Within the Thurrock Unitary Authority in the English County of Essex
The town of Stanford-le-Hope is also a parish of the Church of the Church of England within the Thurrock Unitary Authority in the English county of Essex. It is 23.8 miles east of Charing Cross, London and 5 miles northeast of Tilbury. It is differentiated from the other areas of Thurrock because of its surrounding countryside.
The River Hope, a River Thames tributary, runs across the town. Stanford-le-Hope which is commonly known as merely Stanford is very close to the capital and the Essex Thameside or London, Tilbury, Southend Railway connections making it a popular choice for London commuters.
The town used to be benefited by two refineries on the Thames, Coryton and Shell Haven which no longer operates now. Coryton closed down in 2013, and its demolition continues. It is being redeveloped as a Fuels Storage and Distribution Terminal as well as an enterprise zone under a joint venture of Shell and Greenergy. Shell Haven ceased operation in 1999 and is presently being developed as a deepwater container port with a commercial and logistics development under Dubai Ports. These changes augur for a bright future for the town.

Things to See and Do in Stanford-le-Hope
Nature is the best attraction in Stanford-le-Hope. The Thurrock Thameside Nature Park on the Thames Estuary is a great place for bird and ship watching. It also has miles and miles of walkways and cycle paths. Close by is the Langdon Hills Country Park and Nature Reserve, another haven for nature lovers
The town is famous as the place where Joseph Conrad wrote and lived. Its principal monuments are the Manor Farm and the church and are served by the railway station.
