South Mimms, a Civil Parish and Village of the Hertsmere District of the County of Hertfordshire, England
South Mimms also spelt as South Mymms is a small community near the intersection of the A1 (M) and M25 motorways. This small community is a civil parish and village that forms part of the district of Hertsmere in the English county of Hertfordshire.
Potters Bar, another town in the county used to be just a small community in the South Mimms parish. But when a railway station was located in Potters Bar, the small community grew and was established as another town in what was the Middlesex County then. The creation of Greater London in 1965 dissolved the Middlesex County. The parish of the village, on the other hand, was divided into two under the Local Government Act of 1894. The part that was transferred to the county of Hertfordshire is the southernmost tip of the town which became the parish of the village’s Urban area which now forms part of the London Borough of Barnet. The other half of this village is now the Potters Bar Urban District.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in South Mimms
Since this is a village of only a little over 700 people, it could not sustain its shopping centre, but it sure has two pubs, the Black Horse and the White Hart. There are also a few eating places such as a fast food and even a Starbuck Cafe and two hotels, Ramada and Premier Inn.
Things to See and Do in South Mimms
South Mimms is part of the National Cycle Route, and this section is worth exploring for dedicated bikers. Other than that, the de Havilland Aircraft Museum in London Colney is easily four km. away from the Premier Inn.
