Preston, a Civil Parish and Village in the Hertfordshire County in England
The civil parish and village of Preston is located south of Hitchin in the English County of Hertfordshire. The village developed around Temple Dinsley, a Templar holdings. After the Templars had been dissolved, Temple Dinsley was held by the Knights Hospitaller, who were in turn suspended in 1542. After that, the manor was passed on to Sir Ralph Sadleir.
A significant advantage of this village is its location. The village is not dominated or overshadowed by high ground or hills being only 10 meters lower than the highest point of the Hertfordshire County. This gives a lovely feeling of spaciousness. But the disadvantage also of this sense of spaciousness is the village’s vulnerability to the dreary easterly wind that blows from Siberia.

John Bunyan, the English writer and Puritan preacher, used to hold services in the area in the 17th Century. His place of service is a natural amphitheatre presently called Bunyan’s Del. The local Anglican church, the St Martin Church was inaugurated in 1900. Another area of interest which is identified with Preston is the Minsden Chapel which is believed to be haunted. It is located near the village but part of Langley civil parish. Because of its proximity to Hitchin, visitors and residents of this village go to Hitchin to enjoy what the town has to offer.
