Turnford, a Village in the Lee Valley in the Borough of Broxbourne in the English County of Hertfordshire
Turnford is a village in the area called the Lee Valley. It is in the Borough of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire County, England. Its boundaries are Cheshunt to the west and south, Wormley to the north, and the Lee Navigation to the east. The village is about 18 miles south of Charing Cross, Central London.
The name of the village could have been taken from a compound of the Old English words tun and Ford which means the ford by the farm.
There is evidence of the Old Stone Age, late Bronze Age and Iron Age found and recorded in this area. The village was a farm owned by the manor of Cheshunt in the later part of the Saxon period. Up to the 19th Century, this village was merely a hamlet, but it expanded and grew to start 1880 when the nursery industry moved out of North London to the area of Turnford.

Amenities in the village include two public houses such as the Bull’s Head Inn a Grade II listed building, some essential services and a good selection of retail outlets. It is also home to the Hertford Regional College and the Haileybury, previously the School.
Together with Wormley, this village was granted £1m from the Big Local Trust established by Local Trust and the Big Lottery Fund. It is an endowment to make the area better and has to be spent until 2026.
