Brading, An Ancient Town on the East Side of the Isle of Wight
Brading is an old town on the East side of the Isle of Wight. The original town used to include almost a tenth of the island. It is the main town of the civil parish of the same name which also covers the towns of Alverstone, Arreton and Adgestone. It is located a short distance away from Ryde and considered one of the oldest towns on the island.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Brading
There are only four pubs and restaurants in this town, one of them a fish and chip joint, but they sure offer some of the most amazing foods in the area. Outside of town, in neighbouring towns such as Sandown and New Church, other places offer great food.
Within this town, there is only 1 B & B, The Oakland House, but in Sandown, Seaview and Bembridge the towns and villages close to Brading, there are plenty of places to stay.
Things to See and Do in Brading
A lot of the to do things in this town are associated with its glorious past and rich history. There is the quaint Norman church of St Mary and the elegant Town Hall behind it just waiting to be explored. And in the grounds of the town, an iron building stands that was used to secure a bull while it was being bedevilled by dogs as part of a traditional festivity. There is also the Roman Villa which is located in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the outskirt of town. Also, there are also two sites of significant Nature Conservation near Morton and another on the downs.
The Brading Down is a popular area for viewing the impressive Sandown Bay and Culver Down. It also offers a fantastic view of the town as well as the Spinnaker Tower at Portland and the Solent.
