Braintree, a Town in Essex County, England and the Main Settlement of Braintree District
The town of Braintree which is the main settlement of Braintree District is in the county of Essex, England. It is 10 miles northeast of Chelmsford and 15 miles west of Colchester. The town has become contiguous with the other towns and villages that surround it. The town proper stretches along River Brain and lies to the south of Stane Street, the Roman road connecting Braughing and Colchester. On the other hand, Bocking extends along the River Blackwater and to the north of the Roman road. The two towns are sometimes paired together and called Braintree and Bocking, the name of the civil parish which has been formed since 1934.

People come to this town for the Carnival which takes place in June. A parade of floats passing the town centre and ending at Meadowside marks the start of the festivities. The whole day various activities such as sideshows and fairs are held at Meadowside.
