Sawbridgeworth is a small town and civil parish in the Hertfordshire county in England. The town is a predominantly residential town bordering Harlow. It is four miles south of Bishop’s Stortford, nine miles north of Epping, and twelve miles east of Hartford and has a railway station that connects the town to the London Liverpool Street station. Its neighbouring villages are High Wych, Spellbrook and Much Hadham. A large section of the town centre is a conservation area since many of the buildings there date back from the Georgian, Stuart and Tudor periods.
The town was the most prosperous community in Hertfordshire during that the Norman conquest. It is no wonder why many influential old families had estates in this town. The land was sectioned out amongst these families, into particular estates or manor.
