Carterton is in West Oxfordshire, England. It is considered one of the newest town in the county and yet the second largest town in West Oxfordshire. The town was founded by a group of smallholders led by William Carter of Branksome (Dorset) immediately after 1900. The group settled on a rock farm in the northern part of Black Bourton parish which used to be owned by the Duke of Marlborough. In 1902, the original settlers consisted of 16 houses. The next year, the community which already answers to the name of “Carterton” was made part of the local trader's directory. Now it is a flourishing cosmopolitan community of around 14,000 people.

The town is primarily a residential town although some commercial establishments are servicing the community. There are several shops in the town centre including supermarket chains Morrison and Asda. The expansion and improvement of the retail and business space in the centre are underway making it possible for new chains such as The Original Factory Shop to open lately. New business parks like the West Oxfordshire Retail Park are also being constructed.

A favorite place to visit in Carterton is the Kilkenny Lane Country Park which is perfect for picnic, horse-riding, jogging, walking and simply relaxing. For kids, An ideal place to spend the day is the Darcy Bear, an indoor play area complete with tunnels, rope bridges, slides and ball pits.
