The village of Charlton is in the Wychavon district in the English County of Worcestershire. It is a small village which lies between Bredon Hill and the River Avon and is 5 miles to the west of Pershore and 3 miles to the east of Evesham. Its neighbouring villages are Fladbury, which is over the River Avon and Cropthorne, which is up to the hill.
This small village of roughly 200 houses near Evesham has been flooded three times, in 1993, 1998 and 2007. The flood came from the Merrybrook which runs through the centre of the village. The brook is “flashy”, and it rises very quickly, giving the villagers very little time to prepare and protect their properties and themselves.
Things to See and Do in Charlton
Usually, tourists do not choose this town as a place to visit, but the town is set amidst other towns rich in history and with plenty of things to do. The village could be part of a day tour, especially during one of its unique events such as the Help of Heroes and The Charlton Fayre.
Life in the village is practically centred on the Green where the Gardener’s Arms Pub located on the edge of the Green has become the primary meeting place for the villagers. The Charlton Fayre is held once a year in the village, and most of the activities are conducted in the Village Green while the Gardener’s Arm plays a major part in the festivities. The pub also organised several special events over the past few years. The Help of Heroes is one such event; a British charity began on October 1, 2007, which aims to help provide better conveniences for British servicewomen and men who have been injured in the line of duty.
