Kempston, a Civil Parish and Town in the English County of Bedfordshire
The town of Kempston in Bedfordshire County, England is also a civil parish. Along with Bedford, it constitutes an urban area with approximately 100,000 residents which is the only significant urban area in the Bedford borough. It used to be known as England’s largest village, but it has been elevated to the town status with its town council. Kempston functions mainly as a dormitory town for Bedford.
“Kempston New Town” was a development concept of some developers for land along Kempton to Bedford. Construction was a bit slow at the start, but the new town steadily grew, and began to have a more urban atmosphere.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Kempston
Just outside of the town is the Interchange Retail Park, an out of town shopping complex with some of the country’s big name brand stores as tenants. It offers a pleasant shopping experience especially because it also has a good selection of fast foods and coffee shops where one can fortify oneself after a tiring afternoon of shopping. There are not that many restaurants in town, only eleven, and one coffee shop, but what it has is a varied selection of menus from this eleven restaurants & pubs. In addition to British comfort food, there is Indian, Chinese, and other Asian cuisines that can be had. For visitor accommodation, the place to go to is Bedford since there are no hotels or B&Bs in this town.
Things to See and Do in Kempston
This town is not exactly a tourist destination, except for the Addison Howard Park and the Outdoor Centre, there is not much to see and do here. For more interesting things to see and exciting things to do, Bedford is the nearest place to go to.
