Sandhurst is a parish and town covered by the unitary authority of Bracknell Forest in Berkshire County, south-east England. The town is surrounded by open countryside and is home to the Royal Military Academy, the training centre for the British Army officers. The town is primarily residential with a sprinkling of a few light industries.
The name of the town is of Anglo-Saxon origin coming from the sandy soil and a wooded hillock (also known as Hurst) in the area. In some 14th century records, the town seems to be part of the Sonning township, a sizable minister parish that covers much of Berkshire to the east. Originally there were two manors in the area which is no longer in existent, “Hall” where the Royal Military Academy now stands, and “Sandhurst” which is now the site of Sandhurst Lodge.
