Bourne End, a Village in the parish of Wooburn and Bourne End in the County of Buckinghamshire
Bourne End is a village partly in the parish of Wooburn & Bourne End and also of the parish of Little Marlow, all in the English County of Buckinghamshire. The village is close to the border of Berkshire, on the northern side of the River Thames, where the River Wye flows to the Thames.
Originally, the location of the village is a half mile in the direction of the River Thames, quite different from what is known as the town centre of today. This village derived its name from the Old English word Bourne which means “river”. It means the end of the river and this would refer to the mouth of the River Wye.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Bourne End
Bourne End is not exactly a shopping milieu, although there are shops to serve the local community along the Parade and some on Furlong Road. But in a 10 km radius from the town, there are several shopping centres that will satisfy the needs of any dedicated shopper. For places to dine and wine, there are thirteen restaurants/pubs in this town, but if the diners need a wider choice, High Wycombe which is only several miles away is the place to go. There are no hotels in the village, but it hosts one B&B/inn. Again, for more choices, visitors can go to High Wycombe.
Things to See and Do in Bourne End
One place visitors never fail to visit in this village is the Keg Craft Beer, a brewery or a craft beer bar/shop that serves a large selection of beers and ciders including speciality gins. Another place of interest in this town is the Old Thatch House and Garden, originally the home of Enid Blyton and where Brer Rabbit was born.
