Princes Risborough, a Small Town in the English County of Buckinghamshire
Princes Risborough is a small town in the English county of Buckinghamshire which lies at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. Its nearest neighbours are Aylesbury( 9 miles south), and High Wycombe ( 8 miles north-west). Monks Risborough lies to the east of this town while Bledlow to the west. The Whiteleaf Cross, a cross-shaped chalk hill carving on Whiteleaf Hill overlooked the town.
The name “Risborough” is derived from two Old English hrisen and beorg which means “brushwood-covered hills”. In the records of the Domesday Book of 1086, Risborough was a royal manor held by the King since it was a village of King Harold, the last Anglo-Saxon King of England, before the Norman Conquest. “Princes” was added to the name of the town when it came into the hands of Edward Prince of Wales, also called the Black Prince in the mid 13th Century.

The town supports a collection of independent shops and retailers, mostly found on the High Street and Duke Street, but not a shopper’s dream. In spite of its size, it hosts twenty-eight dining and drinking places such as restaurants and bars, pubs, gastropubs, and cafes. And diners have a choice of British, Mediterranean, Indian, Italian and other Asian and European cuisine. Although there are no hotels in this town, there are four B&Bs where guests can stay either for business or pleasure.

Princes Risborough is well-known for its ski and snow tours. These are guided World War II historical tours following the”Freedom Trails” or escape routes from Italy to Switzerland across the Alps.The town also has one of the best off-road cycling in the area.
