Weedon, a Civil Parish and a Village in the District of Aylesbury Vale in the English County of Buckinghamshire
Weedon is a village and civil parish located south of Hardwick and north of Aylesbury in the Aylesbury Vale district of the English County of Buckinghamshire. An excavation conducted in early 2000 yielded a field system that may have been in operation in some areas of this village, proof that these regions have been settled from as early as the Bronze Age. In later years evidence of Roman settlements was also discovered.
The name of this village came from the Old English word which means “hill with a heathen temple,” It must be describing the pagan Anglo-Saxons that settled in Buckinghamshire from the 5th Century. Records of 1066, though, listed the town as Weodune. The name of the town is not mentioned in the 1086 Domesday book, but it is contained three times in the list of land-holdings for Hardwick. The Hardwick Manor is the largest of the land holdings, followed by what must have been the 14th Century Weedon-in-the-Vale Manor which became Kempton’s Fee in the 16th and 17th Century. The smallest manor is believed to be a part of Weedon Manor.
