Stanway, a Civil Parish and Village within the Colchester Borough in the English County of Essex
The Stanway village is also a civil parish within the Borough of Colchester in the Essex County, England. It is located close to Colchester and is now well-known as a suburb. The name of the village is an Anglo-Saxon term referring to the “stone way” of the Roman road, presently the A12. The village is around 3 miles west of the town centre of Colchester on the B1408 near the intersection of A1124 and A12.

A place of interest in the village is the grave of the “Druid of Colchester “ which was discovered just off the A12. An investigation of an archaeological team on the layout of five ancient ditched enclosures that were pinpointed through aerial photographs led to the discovery. This was before the expansion of the Stanway Sand & Gravel quarry.
