Lydney, a Thriving Town in the County of Gloucestershire, England
Lydney is a civil parish and small town in the County of Gloucestershire, England. It sits on the north bank of England’s longest river, River Severn near Forest of Dean. This thriving town is the home of the Dean Forest Railway.
A community has existed in the town as early as during the Roman times. It is even believed that the Lydney Park used to be an important Roman settlement which was referred to as the Dwarf’s Hill in the 4th Century, It had a temple, a guest house and a bathhouse.

Things to See and Do in Lydney
The main attractions of this town are the Park Estate and the Harbour. The Park Spring gardens and the Park grounds have changed over time. The house on Lydney Park was originally surrounded by a large walled garden and a pleasure garden which extend to the Deer Park. The garden underwent a facelift in the 1950s where lawns, hedges, two fountain pools, and a paved terrace were added, in an extensive replanting scheme. The gardens, as it is today, is a splendid display of spring colours.
Another pride of the town is the Harbour which dates back from the 1870s. It is a rare example of a well-preserved 19th Century harbour for sailing ships. In 1980 the connecting locks and the lower and tidal basins of the harbour were recognised as “Scheduled Monuments”.
