Stevenage, a Borough and New Town in the English County of Hertfordshire
Stevenage, a borough and town in the English county of Hertfordshire is located between Welwyn Garden City to the South, Letchworth Garden City to the north and approximately 32.9 miles north of Central London. It was named a New Town in 1946 under the New Towns Act of that year. It celebrated its 70th year as a New Town in 2016.
Stevenage is near the route of the Roman road from Verulamium to Baldock. When the New Town was being built, evidence of Roman times was discovered including 2,000 silver Roman coins unearthed in 1986. The most significant proof of activity during the Roman era is a collection of Roman barrows called Six Hills found close to the old Great North Road.
