The High Street of this market town is a beehive of activity with its specialists shops as well as traditional independent shops. It now hosts a weekly Friday market and a farmers’ market twice monthly on a Saturday. The town also has an eclectic mix of places to eat, all thirty-two of them at the latest count. The traditional English pub and restaurant dominate the selection, but there are also a good number of Asian and Indian restaurants plus the ubiquitous coffee and tea houses. When it comes to visitor accommodation, this town has a goodly number of hotels, B&Bs and inns to choose from.
Things to See and Do in Tring
The canal gets its water from the four Reservoir - Marsworth, Startops End, Tringford and Wilstone. Since 1955 these have been a national nature reserve and since 1987, classified as an SSSI or Site of Special Scientific Interest. Close at hand is the Ashridge Estate, home to the Ashridge Business School and part of the National Trust. The estate is also within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that practically hems in the town. These areas are fantastic sites for nature and wildlife tours.
In 2005, the old livestock market of the town was revived, and some of the old animal pens were saved. The Tring Local History Museum which opened in 2010 is now housed in the old office of the livestock market. The old livestock market is believed to be the only example of its kind in the UK. The Tring Brewery, Natural History Museum, Pitstone Windmill, and the Sts Peter and Paul Church are also worth visiting.
