Sandown, a Civil Parish and Seaside Resort Town on the South-West Coast of the Isle of Wight, England
Sandown is a Civil Parish and Seaside Resort Town that sits on the Southwest coast of the Isle of Wight, England. The town is sheltered in a lovely bay and is famous for its pier, a traditional English seafront and its long stretches and the vast expanse of golden sandy beaches. Its next door neighbour is the town of Shanklin and sandwiched between the two is the Lake Village. Both towns also share the Bay off the English Channel which is the site of the Castle, which at present is just a pile of rocks.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Sandown
Along the seafront of town, there is no shortage for places to have a snack or grab an ice cream. But for the serious eaters, they can always go and find a place to eat somewhere in town. Some good restaurants and pubs are offering a selection of various cuisines in and around town. Outside of town, there are several highly recognised restaurants such as the Garlic Cafe at Newchurch.
Things to See and Do in Sandown
There is no shortage of things to do in Sandown for people of all interest and ages. A quiet stroll along the sandy beaches of this seaside resort town is more than enough to occupy one’s time. The Yaverland beach is known for watersports, and there are several water sports centres where visitors can go kayaking, windsurfing and do other water sports activities.
Another fun activity is fossil hunting, The Isle of Wight is called “Dinosaur Island” because it has the highest concentration of dinosaur fossils anywhere else in the world. And the Sandown Bay area is a great place to do dinosaur fossil hunting, while the Dinosaur museum is the best place to learn about the Island’s dinosaur’s history. Of course not to be missed is the Pier.
