Within the metropolitan borough of St. Helens in the county of Merseyside lies the lovely village of Haydock. It was historically part of the county of Lancashire, and it contains a section of the Blackbrook electoral ward as well as all the electoral wards of Haydock. It is situated almost halfway between Manchester and Liverpool. Home to St. John’s Parish, this village is named from the Celtic head which translates to “barley, wheat” along with suffix “act” which means “place”.
