Amersham, a Civil Parish and Market Town Within the Chiltern District in the English County of Buckinghamshire
Amersham is a market town and civil parish in the Buckinghamshire County in England. It is in the Chiltern Hills within the Chiltern district 27 miles north-west of London. It is also 13 miles away from High Wycombe and 15 miles away from Aylesbury. The town also forms part of the London commuter belt, called the London metropolitan area.
This market town is divided into two distinct areas, Old Amersham and Amersham-on-the-hill. The first one is located at the foot of the hill in the valley of the River Misbourne and is described as a “charming Old Town.” It encompasses the 13th Century St Mary’s parish church and some coaching inns and pub. Then the other district which used to be called The Common is a relatively modern settlement which developed rapidly because of the advent of the Metropolitan Railway line in the 1890s. It is now referred to as the “New Town”.

Things to See and Do in Amersham
In this vibrant market town, there is a museum that regularly hosts guided walks around the Old Town. It is a half-timbered merchant’s hall that dates back to the 15th Century that exhibits the archaeology and history of the area in the form of wall painting, fossils, local crafts, costumes, The town also hosts a yearly two-day Charter Fair every month of September. The fair started from a charter grant given by King John in 1200.
