Things to See and Do in Felixstowe
At the beginning of the 20th Century, there was a tourism boom in the town. In 1905, a pier was built which to this day is partially used as an amusement arcade. The opening of the railway station in the late Victorian era, the construction of the pier and a visit from the German Royal family, boosted the tourism industry and made the town a fashionable resort.
Recently, Felixstowe had a spruced up sandy beach south of the pier, and north from the pier, a Stoney beach. A Victorian walkway with classic beach huts along most of its length extends along a section of the beach, from the nature reserve to Cobbold Point in the south-west. The southern end of the pier is occupied by an amusement arcade complete with food arcades and snooker halls. The pier is in front of a leisure centre with a swimming pool owned by the local council.
