Leigh On Sea or Leigh, a Civil Parish and Town in the Southend-on-Sea District in the English County of Essex
The town of Leigh-on-Sea is also a civil parish in the district of Southend-on- Sea in Essex County, England. It is also often called just Leigh and the only civil parish in the borough. The town is located on the northern side of the Thames Estuary several miles to the south of the coast of Kent, and the same distance to the south of the open waters of the North Sea. It is about 40 miles away from central London by rail and road networks and is a part of the London commuter belt.
The Riverside community along “The Old Town” or “Old Leigh” has a historical importance since it used to be the main shipping passage to London. The Old Town also played host to the high street and the market square of the settlement since the Middle Ages until the start of the 20th Century.
