Stroud is a civil parish and a busy market town in Gloucestershire County in England. It is also the principal town of the Stroud District. It sits beneath the western escarpment of the Cotswold Hills where the Five Valleys converge. The town is well-known for its independent spirit, steep streets and cafe culture. It is surrounded by the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Cotswold Way goes through it to the west.

The town has hosted a fringe festival for many years where more than 400 performers will be seen free of charge on several outdoor stages and other venues in town during the August Bank Holiday yearly. The festival has been expanded to include art and literature, and independent artists or unsigned bands. This town also has a robust community of independent cafes and shops.
