ABOUT THE AREA

Although Botley is a village of North Hinksey, it is also considered a residential suburb of the City of Oxford. The village used to be part of Berkshire up until 1974. Dean Court of the Cumnor Civil Parish is its next door neighbour and borders the village to the west. The village is located on the western outskirt of Oxford near the junctions of the A420 and A34 Oxford Ring Road. Although the village has close links with Oxford, it sits outside the boundaries of the city, and administratively and historically its ties with the Vale of White Horse and Abingdon is stronger.

Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Botley

Major shopping is what this village has to offer in the Botley Road Retail Park, a 35,000 sq ft of pure retail businesses. When it comes to dining out, this town has restaurants, pubs, and cafes mostly serving English food, although there is one Italian and one Indian restaurant. There is not that many choices when it comes to guest accommodation since there is only one hotel and one B&B in the village, but there are a lot of xhoices in the adjoining towns and cities.

Things to See and Do in Botley

There are three historical locations in this area that are worth a visit. There is the Commonwealth War Graves at the Cemetery and the St Lawrence Church in North Hinksey built around 1100 AD and has retained traces of Norman design. There is also the Conduit House on Harcourt Hill, a small early 17th-century structure built to house the first water system of Oxford. Shops in the village consist of the West Way shopping precinct and Elms Parade. A building of note in the village is the Seacourt Tower also called the “Botley Cathedral” because of its small metal spires. It was originally built between 1965 and 1966 as designed by Beecher and Stamford and was to be a car showroom.
