Wantage in the Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire, England, the Birthplace of King Alfred the Great
Wantage is a civil parish and market town that used to be a part of Berkshire County. At present, however, it is now part of the Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire, England. The town is located at the foot of the Berkshire Downs ridge along Letcombe Brook. The other towns close to it are Abingdon (8 miles), Didcot (10 miles), Oxford (15 miles and Newbury (14 miles). One of its claim to fame is that King Alfred the Great was born here in the 9th Century.
