Ipswich is the county town of the English county of Suffolk. It is a non-metropolitan district but the 4th largest urban area in the East of England region of the United Kingdom and the 42nd largest urban area in Wales and England in the 2011 census. The town is located at the mouth of the River Orwell and is approximately 60 miles northeast of London. It has been continually occupied since the time of the Saxons, and the town’s port has been one of the most important port in England throughout the country’s history.
