Coleshill in North Warwickshire, England is a Market Town which is Part of the West Midlands Conurbation
The market town of Coleshill in the district of North Warwickshire in Warwickshire County, England takes its name from the River Cole. It is located on a hill between River Blythe and River Cole which meets with the River Tame to the north.
This market town is 11 miles east of Birmingham near the border with West Midlands. It is considered part of the West Midlands conurbation even with breaks of wide green belt land between the town and the rest of the conurbation. The green belt tapers to around 150 yards to the north close to Water Orton, and to about 700 yards at the southern end of the town’s boundary with Chelmsley Wood.
A Brief History of Coleshill
The town dates back to the Iron Age as the Grimstock Hill Romano-British settlement even before the Romans came in 43 AD. Hut circles were found by archaeologists at the close of the 1970s as proof of this claim. The excavations also revealed that there was a Romano-Celtic temple on Grimstock Hill all through the Roman period. The locality was at the confluence of two mighty Celtic clans, the Cornovil from Viroconium Cornoviorum to the west and the Coritanii from Leicester to the east.
