Ludgershall in Wiltshire, England, the Town with a Rich and Lengthy History

Ludgershall is a town northeast of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England. This town which is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Litigarsele has a rich and long history. Although it is known as a “corn and sheep” village, a royal castle was built at the fringe of the Salisbury Plain at the start of the 12th century. The English royalty continued to use the castle until its neglect around 1546. Excavation work was done on the castle from 1964 to1972. At present, it is now open for public viewing under the care of the English Heritage and is the town’s main visitor attraction.
