ABOUT THE AREA

Marlborough is a market town in Wiltshire County, England. It sits on the banks of the River Kennet and along the Old Bath Road, what used to be the main road between London and Bath. The pride of the town is having the second broadest high street in Britain, the first being Stockton-on-Tees.

One of the reasons why this town is such a big favourite among tourists is the mystical Merlin’s Mound in the grounds of Marlborough College. It is rumoured that the wizard Merlin is buried here. The college is also the Alma Mater of the Duchess of Cambridge.

In this town, there is an eclectic collection of restaurants. From the formal dining venues to pubs offering home-made cooking and everything else in between, this town has it all. The pubs or English tea rooms serve excellent and cheap food choices for lunch and dinner. There are also delis for mouth watering food for dining in or takeaways, ethnic restaurants for the taste of the exotic and the high-end High Street restaurant chain with their gastronomic delights.

The town is also considered a serious place for retail shopping. There are some big name chains and a comprehensive selection of independent shops that sell all kinds of stuff, most especially clothes, fashion accessories, and jewellery. Both sides of the high street are lined with privately-owned unique and stylish boutiques and high street fashion chains such as Dorothy Perkins, Jigsaw, Monsoon, Crew, Dash, White Stuff, Phase Eight and more.
