The Garrison Town of Tidworth in South-East Wiltshire, England
Tidworth is a civil parish and a garrison town in south-east Wiltshire, England. It is surrounded by a lovely countryside, and it lies along the A338 Road, near the border of Wiltshire and Hampshire and with an efficient bus service from Salisbury to Andover. Towards the north-west of town is the Iron Age fortification of Sidbury Hill or Sidbury Camp covering an area of approximately 75 acres and is known to be the site of a Neolithic settlement. Very recently, Royal Mail has designated this town as the most desirable postcode, meaning it is an ideal place to live, work and play.
Food and Shopping in Tidworth
For food lovers, this town is paradise. The number of restaurants may not be as many as in other towns in the county, but the quality of dining establishments here cannot be faulted. The Boot Inn, Atlantic Fish Bar, and Chef’s Delight are three of eight restaurants and bar/pub within the town. Diners can have a choice of cuisine from British, Chinese, Asian, Indian, and Balti. Things to See and Do in Tidworth
Inside the town, places of interest include the St. Mary’s Mortuary Chapel that dates back to 1870. There is also the Norman Church of the Holy Trinity which is believed to have been built in the late 13th Century or even earlier; It contains historical features from a previous time like the 12th-century font. The church was rebuilt in the 15th century. Tidworth is also home to the Tedworth House, Hampshire Cross and quaint thatched cottages. Tedworth House is a property owned by the War Office but is presently leased out to Help for Heroes, and has been refurbished as the organisation’s flagship Recovery Centre.
For sports enthusiasts, places of interest would be the Polo Club said to be one of the oldest polo clubs in England and is located in the fields of Tedworth Park, and the Garrison Golf Club with its excellent downland golf course. This town is also quite close to places of attraction such as the Stonehenge and Avebury.
Since the town is very accessible from Marlborough and Salisbury, visitors who come to visit Tidworth find accommodation in either one of the two towns.
