Exploring the Lovely Village and Civil Parish of Lanchester in County Durham, England
Approximately five miles from the former steel town of Consett and eight miles west to the city of Durham, lies the village and civil parish of Lanchester. This village was within the former district of Derwentside, and it houses a population of slightly more than 4,000. Its economy was mainly based on the agriculture sector although it has small drift mine on the edge of the village, which eventually closed in the 1970s. Today, it is a residential village that offers a lot of housing estates developed since the 1960s.
The village center of Lanchester is home to a small shopping center and a few selection of stores and local businesses. Its retail sector is only enough to cater to the local demands of the village and its people. For a good shopping experience, this village is just eleven minutes away from the town of Stanley via the A6076 and A693 roads. Both the locals and the visitors of this village can visit the former county town to access better shopping facilities.
Lanchester is home to three traditional local pubs which are housed in the village center. All of them offer a great selection of finely brewed ales and delectable traditional English dishes. These three pubs are best places in town to get an award-winning fish ‘n’ chips, shepherd’s pie and succulent roasts.
