The English Market Town and Civil Parish of Egremont in the Borough of Copeland of Cumbria

Sitting on the bank of the River Ehen, approximately five miles south of Whitehaven in the Copeland borough is the market town of Egremont. Nestled at the foot of the Uldale Valley and Dent Fell, this town was historically part of Cumberland. This town also has a long history and rich heritage in dyeing, weaving, and iron ore mining. It features a similar town layout as at the time of Richard de Lucy around 1200, where its wide Main Street opens out into its market place. On the southern end of the town’s Main Street is the ruins of the Norman Castle built in the 12th-century, this and along with its fine architectures makes this town a fascinating place to discover and explore.

The town’s market is held every Friday, in the town’s market place located along the Market Street. Its main shopping area is the Market Street where it houses the town’s two supermarkets; Co-op Food and Heron Foods. The street is also home to different shopping outlets, independent shops, and various retailers. Making this town a decent shopping destination that promises good retail therapy.
