The historic town of Colchester in the Colchester Borough in the English County of Essex is a large town. In fact, it is considered the largest community within the borough and one of the fastest growing towns in Britain. It is also the oldest recorded Roman town in the UK and claims to be Britain’s oldest town. It is even a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network. For a time, this historic town was the capital of Roman Britain.
The town is around 20 miles away from the Harwich ferry port, less than 30 miles from Stansted Airport and 50 miles northeast of London. It is linked to the city by the Great Eastern Main Line and the A12 road, making it a town preferred by commuters.
