Things to See and Do in Stanway
The principal attraction of this village is the imposing Stanway House, a Jacobean manor house set amidst formal gardens with a baroque gatehouse. The estate also boasts of a gravity-fed fountain, which at 300 feet is considered the highest fountain of its kind in the UK. The fountain which is part of the water gardens was restored in 2004, and it can be seen from several miles away.
The medieval St Peter’s Church and a beautiful tithe barn are also on the estate. A tower was added in the 13th Century. The tithe barn, on the other hand, was built in the 14th Century for Tewkesbury Abbey.
Another feature of the Estate is the brewery, one of only two coal-fired breweries in the UK which was reopened recently. A Flower Show during the month of August is also being held in the Tithe Barn at the House Grounds since 1940.
A structure of particular historical and architectural interest found in the village is the War Memorial located on the south side of the village at the intersection of the B4077 road.
