Stonehouse, an Urban Area and Town within the Stroud District in the English County of Gloucestershire
Stonehouse is a town within the Stroud district in Gloucestershire, England. It sits roughly 9 miles south of the city centre of Gloucester. The town hosts several industrial and business parks which are home to some large companies including the Severnside Dairy, Schlumberger, Delphi Automotive, Dairy Partners, Renishaw and Lister Shearing.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Stonehouse
The manor house which was built on grounds with a vineyard and mill was formerly owned by William de Ow, a cousin of William the Conqueror. In 1908 the manor house burned to the ground, and on the same site, a new structure was built which is now the Stonehouse Court Hotel. The hotel is located near the Stroudwater Canal and the St Cyr’s Church. To this day, the mill remained operational. The Stonehouse Court Hotel is the pride of this town. It’s a 17th Century manor house that was converted into a luxury five-star hotel. The building is set in the middle of six acres of astonishingly beautiful grounds that overlook the undulating hills of the Stroud Valley and the Stroud Water Canal. There is one other hotel in this town and four B&Bs/inns.
In 1838, there used to be thirty-three beer houses and public houses in this town. At present, there are only a few including The Woolpack Inn, The Globe Inn, Kings Head, Rose & Crown Inn, The Old Badger Inn, and OaK Taverns. The Woolpack Inn built in the 17th Century is one of the oldest building and one of the oldest pub in this town.

A landmark in this town that is frequently visited by tourists is the unfinished Woodchester Mansion in the Victorian Gothic architectural style. Other historic sites, ancient castles, stately mansions and churches can be found in the towns and villages nearby.
