Cheshunt, a Town in the Broxbourne Borough in the English County of Hertfordshire
Although a town in the Broxbourne Borough of the English County of Hertfordshire, Cheshunt lies completely within the Greater London Urban Area and the London Metropolitan Area being 12 miles north of Central London.
The name of the town is derived from an Old English word Cestrehunt, the word centre being a derivation of the Latin word castrum meaning “fort.” The name Cheshunt could probably refer to a ”castle built by the Romans” since this town started as a settlement on Ermine Street, the Roman Road that leads north from London.

The extraction resulted in the creation of lakes which are very popular with naturalists, birdwatchers and anglers.
