Cheshunt, a Town in the Broxbourne Borough in the English County of Hertfordshire

Although a town in the Broxbourne Borough of the English County of Hertfordshire, Cheshunt lies completely within the Greater London Urban Area and the London Metropolitan Area being 12 miles north of Central London.

The name of the town is derived from an Old English word Cestrehunt, the word centre being a derivation of the Latin word castrum meaning “fort.” The name Cheshunt could probably refer to a ”castle built by the Romans” since this town started as a settlement on Ermine Street, the Roman Road that leads north from London.

The town is a paradise to food lovers. The town offers a wide selection of places to eat such as fine-dining restaurants, traditional English pubs, gastropubs, bars and lounges, fast food shops, cafes, fast foods and delis. The choice of menu is also mind-blowing. Of course, British fare predominates, but still, there are choices of cuisines from all over the world, including Greek, Polish, Turkish and more. As to a place to stay the night, there are two hotels in this town, one B&B and two speciality lodgings, while for shopping, Brookfield Retail Park is the place to go in this town.

Things to See and Do in Cheshunt

This town is located in the Lea Valley, and it has access to the River Lee Country Park, a 1,000-acre park that is a haven for wildlife. Sand and gravel were extracted from the floodplain of the River Lea at the end of the Second World War. The extraction resulted in the creation of lakes which are very popular with naturalists, birdwatchers and anglers. The area is now part of the Turnford and Cheshunt Pits, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (ISSI) and the River Lee Country Park.
