Garston, a Village Contiguous to the Town of Watford in the English County of Hertfordshire
The village of Garston in the English County of Hertfordshire is not only adjacent to Watford but has ultimately become its suburb, with this town still maintaining its identity. The village is within the borough of Watford’s Meriden, Woodside and Stanborough wards but some of its streets are in Hertsmere. Woodside Leisure Park, Watford’s major out-of-town leisure park, is found in this town on the site of the old Golf Range. It has a local nature reserve called the Garston Park with a woodland made up mainly of sycamore, ash and oak.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in Garston
The Garston Park Parade built in the 1950s is the town’s shopping centre, although there are also shops found on the Kingswood estate, Meriden estate, along with ST Albans Road and more at the A405 crossing near the Three Horseshoe Pub. The Dome Roundabout located along the A41 road is home to an ASDA supermarket, a Sainsbury’s as well as an abundance of small shops within the site of ASDA, a Waitrose store, a Shell Petrol Station and a Pizza Hut. Once the roundabout was home to Odeon Motors, an independent car dealership, a gas showroom and the Bungalow Stores. A bit farther from the Dome roundabout is the impressive clock tower of the Odhams Press.
Things to See and Do in Garston
Notable buildings in this town include the British Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist and the Building Research Establishment on Bucknalls Lane.There is also the West Herts Crematorium, the central facility for cremation in the West Hertfordshire area of Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and Watford. There are also churches of various denominations in the village; the All Saints of the Anglicans and St Michaels for the Roman Catholics. One of England’s largest Church of the Nazarene churches serving the Watford area is in Woodside.
