Newmarket, The Global Centre and Birthplace of Thoroughbred Horse Racing in the English County of Suffolk
The market town of Newmarket is in Suffolk, England about 65 miles north of London. This town is considered the centre of thoroughbred horse racing in the world and Britain’s largest training centre for racehorses. It is also the country’s largest centre for racehorse breeding, host to nearly all leading horse racing institutions in Britain and a major global hub for horse health.
Food, Shopping and Accommodation in New Market
Aside from being the horse centre of Britain, Newmarket is also a shopping capital, at least in this corner of the world. There are two shopping centres in this town, The Guineas Shopping Centre, and Studlands Shopping, both carrying some of the big names in the retail business. Also, there are a collection of independent retailers along High St and the other main streets of the town where shoppers can find some unique items.

Most everything exciting and interesting to see and do in Newmarket has something to do with horses.This town has two large racetracks, The July Course and The Rowley Mill. It also has more than fifty horse training stations and the world’s most impressive and extensive training ground for horses. Not to be missed when visiting this town is the Palace House, the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art. It is also a must to visit Tattersall, the most famous bloodstock auctioneer in Europe, and the National Horse Racing Museum.
