Mildenhall, a Civil Parish and a Small Market Town in the Forest Heath District in the English County of Suffolk
The small market town and civil parish of Mildenhall is part of Forest Heath, a non-metropolitan district in the English county of Suffolk. The town is located close to the A11 and is 37 miles north-west of Ipswich, the county town of Suffolk.
The RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath are both located near this town. The RAF, although a Royal Air Force base, mainly supports the USAF or United States Air Force. The village presently has the highest number of American residents in the UK.
The town’s claim to fame is the Mildenhall Treasure, a stockpile of 4th Century Roman silver objects discovered in 1942. The discovery was revealed in 1946, and the silver hoard is now at the British Museum.

Things to See and Do in Mildenhall
This town is an ideal base for visiting other villages and towns in the north-west of Suffolk because of its proximity to Newmarket, Brandon, Bury St Edmund, Lavenham and Lakenheath. Life in the village is centred on a marketplace with a town pump and a 16th Century six-sided market cross. Presently, a market is held here every Friday which is a continuation of a weekly market chartered in the 15th Century. Not to be missed while in in town is a visit to the District Museum, a museum of the half a million years of history.
