The town of Loughton in also a civil parish in the District of Epping Forest in Essex County, England. It also forms part of the Greater London Urban Area and the London Metropolitan Area for statistical purposes. The town is located almost 12 miles northeast of Charing Cross, and is bounded by Buckhurst Hill, Theydon Bois, Waltham Abbey and Chingford and contains three conservation areas. Loughton Camp is the oldest edifice in this town. It is an earth fort dating back to 500 BC in the Epping Forest. For centuries it was concealed by thick brushwood and was only found in 1872.
