Longford, a Residential Village in Gloucestershire, England
Longford is a civil parish and residential village in Gloucestershire, England. The parish is within the area of authority of the Borough of Tewkesbury even if the village is only two miles away from the city centre of Gloucester. The village is linked to Gloucester by a segregated bicycle path, and it borders the Tewkesbury Road extending north out of Gloucester.
From the city of Gloucester, the Tewkesbury road traverses northwards from Alvin gate to the communities of Twigworth, Kingshold and Longford. The road was joined by a road from the blind gate in Kingsholm. This road was called the Dean’s Walk in its south part and Snake Lane in its northern portion. Causeways and bridges connect the Tewkesbury Road over low-lying meadows and waterways in the village, which was named after the crossing.
Presently, this village is principally a residential village, but in 1851 there was a big number of market gardeners in the village and Twigworth. Later, the market gardens spread to Innsworth and Longlevens or Springfield. It was hugely affected by the floods in July 2007 that resulted in the flooding of a vast number of homes. The flooding spread along the Tewkesbury Road as far as the Westfield Terrace and passing by the self-named Inn.
