The historic market town of Wokingham in Berkshire County, England was granted a borough status in 2017. It sat on the Emm Brook in the Loddon Valley in central Berkshire and used to be part of a circle of agricultural land on the edge of Windsor Forest is 33 miles west of central London and is between the towns of Bracknell and Reading.
The name of the town means “wocca’s people’s home”, Wocca being a Saxon chieftain who had lands at Woking in Surrey and Wokefield in Berkshire. Before, the town’s primary industry was brick-making, but that has been replaced by service industries, light engineering and software development.
The residential areas of Wokingham radiate in all directions from the town centre which is being scheduled for a major rehabilitation. These residential areas are Norreys, Bean Oak, Dowles Green, and Keephatch to the east, Emmbrook to the northeast, Eastheath and Wescott to the south, and Woosehill to the west.
